Much as I love an obscure song discovery from a dusty book or scratchy recording, I've come to appreciate well-worn pub classics like this a great deal over the last few years. I can't pinpoint who or where I learned it from - it's so in the ether of Irish-American culture that I'm probably pulling inspiration as much from Tommy Makem as from one of the many friends and acquaintances I've heard sing it on a St. Paddy's Day.
